Christmas Done Differently

It’s been a hectic stretch for all of us as we try to get to the end of the year. For myself, I decided to make it even more crazy by moving to a new house. As many close to me can attest, I absolutely hate moving, so I’ve been carrying some stress because of it. I’m happy that we’re settling in now, though, as the boxes are mostly unpacked, the Christmas decorations are up (even the fake tree we ordered from Canadian Tire), and Christmas itself is finally here.

It will be a different Christmas for all of us, and moving to a new house amidst it all has been quite an experience due to this pandemic. Lockdowns are now being put back into place for at least another month, so it seems we got our move done just before the bell. Now that it’s behind us, I’m looking forward to getting back into my writing, as I do miss the feeling of making nightly progress on it. Truth be told, I haven’t worked on any writing projects in a while now, and even in the weeks leading up to the move, I was far too busy to get much writing or editing done. Any free time we had, we put entirely towards preparing for our move and making sure we had all of our bases covered so it would go smoothly.

Unfortunately, I haven’t had time to read all that much either. I dug into American Gods in November, something I’d been eager to read for some time now. After getting about 200 pages deep, though, I haven’t touched the book since. The story has been enjoyable so far, but life has just become rather busy. Things are mercifully slowing down now, though, and I’ll be able to dive back in very soon.

All in all, I hope all of you can also take a moment or two to enjoy this season, even though we can’t do so in the traditional sense. Do whatever makes this time of year feel right for you. Read something good. Drink something warm. Eat something tasty. Watch fun movies. It doesn’t have to be in that order, either. Treat yourself well and at your own pace. That’s what I find is a surefire way to make lasting memories of the holiday season while gearing yourself up for the upcoming year, one that could be full of opportunities you didn’t even know existed.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!
